Best Community Hub

The Lion Hotel, Treorchy

Adrian Emmett

The Lion Hotel is situated in Treorchy, a valley town in the Rhondda, South Wales.  Working closely with Ei Publican Partnerships, Adrian has transformed the pub from run down to the bustling hub of the community it is today. Adrian and his team have not only met but exceeded the communities needs and expectations. People no longer need to travel long distances to enjoy live sport, live music, good affordable food, and a safe welcoming environment where all ages are welcome.

The team runs all types of entertainment including their weekly quiz night, weekly live bands and acoustic acts, comedy nights as well as six annual music, arts, and beer festivals. However, Adrian is passionate about giving back to the community that has given so much to him so goes that extra mile to work with all members of Treorchy.  The Lion Attendance Challenge is now into its fifth year, and with the backing of the council we promote attendance to over 11,000 pupils in 39 primary and 5 comprehensive schools in the Rhondda Valley. Pupils are rewarded each term with a ‘Golden Ticket’ for excellence in attendance, which are exchanged in the Lion for prizes. Adrian has personally attended and presented prizes in over 90 school assemblies, many with their mascot ‘Super Attender’, who has his very own song and dance.

Adrian and his team have also won the highly prestigious Ei Group Pub of the Year Award, chosen by our judges from the individual category winners of all the Ei Group Awards entrants. The award is designed to recognise the best of the best, a great all-rounder publican and someone who shows a total passion for their pub, their community and is a credit to the industry they serve.
